
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the 2025 South Queensland School Age Regatta Conference (SQSARC), kicking off this Saturday, 10 May at Wyaralong Dam!
This much-anticipated regatta series, delivered by Rowing Queensland, brings together school-aged rowers from across South-East Queensland and Northern NSW to compete in a structured, inclusive and exciting competition environment. It’s the perfect stage for developing athletes to sharpen their skills, race against peers, and grow their love for the sport.
🌊 What is the SQSARC?
The SQSARC is a dedicated regatta series designed for eligible school-aged athletes from schools and clubs across:

Sunshine Coast
-
Brisbane (North, Metro, South)

Gold Coast
-
Northern Rivers (NSW)
The event caters for all levels of youth rowing with formats including:

Traditional lane racing
-
Time trials
-
Sprint racing
Each regatta offers different events and age categories, culminating in the Trophy Regatta on 14 June, where medals and trophies will be awarded.
✅ Key Eligibility

Athletes must be 12 to 19 years old and enrolled full-time in an approved school.
-
No previous BSRA or GPS season rowers are eligible.

Freshmen must have never competed in any regatta.

Novices must be younger than Year 8.
🧑🤝🧑 Crew Rules & Team Makeup

Athletes can row for a club or a school, but not both at the same regatta.

Crews may be made up of:
-
A single school
-
A club
-
A combination of clubs and schools

Athletes can row up age groups, but must apply for exemption to row down.
📋 Uniforms & Entries

Uniforms must follow Rowing Australia guidelines.
-
Transitional uniforms are permitted for all events except the Trophy Regatta.

Entries close 6pm on the Monday prior to each regatta and must be submitted via Rowing Manager.
🏆 What’s at Stake?
The final regatta on 14 June will crown overall winners in several categories:

Steve Hinchy Trophy – Highest overall points
-
Rowing Queensland Percentage Trophy – Points corrected for squad size

Jenny Pemberton Cup – Best boys’ school program
-
Andrew Butler Trophy – Best girls’ school program
🛶 Event Line-Up
Each age group races different boat classes and distances:

Years 8–9: 1000m
-
Year 10: 1500m
-
Open (Yr 11–12): 2000m
-
Freshmen & Mixed crews: 1000m or age-appropriate distances
Events include 1x, 2x, 4x(+) and 8+ boats across all year levels and genders.
